Application rates define how quickly water is applied to a field. Semios uses application rates to calculate water volume by multiplying the application rate by the amount of time water is flowing.

Application rates are used in:

  • Map water volume values

  • Irrigation Activity

  • Reports

  • Other water management calculations

For the most accurate water volume data, use application rates based on your actual irrigation system instead of default or generic values.

Update an Application Rate

If you already know the application rate for a block:

  1. Go to hub.semios.com.

  2. Select Settings from the left-hand panel.

  3. Under Water Management, select Emitter Configuration.

  4. Enter the application rate for the appropriate block.

  5. Confirm the correct unit is selected.

  6. Select Save.

Application rates are often listed on the irrigation system design provided when the system was built.

Calculate an Application Rate

If you do not know the application rate, use the Rate Calculator.

  1. Go to Settings > Water Management > Emitter Configuration.

  2. Select Rate Calculator.

Enter the required irrigation design values.

Rate Calculator Fields

Number of Lines
The number of irrigation lines delivering water at one time.

Example: For a double-line drip system, enter 2.

Emitter Flow Rate
The flow rate of each individual emitter.

Example: A common drip emitter flow rate is 0.53 gph, but this varies by system.

Emitter Spacing
The distance between emitters.

For drip systems, this is often between 24–40 inches. Microsprayers usually have larger spacing.

Enter emitter spacing in inches, not feet.

Row Spacing
The distance between crop rows.

Enter row spacing in feet.

Apply the Calculated Rate

After all values are entered, the application rate will calculate automatically.

  1. Select Copy Rate.

  2. Paste the rate into the appropriate block.

  3. Select Save.

Bulk Edit Application Rates

Use Bulk Edit when multiple blocks or sets share the same irrigation design.

  1. Open Emitter Configuration.

  2. Select Bulk Edit.

Enter the application rate in the top application rate field.

  3. Select the blocks or sets that should use that rate.

  4. Select Apply.

Bulk Edit is useful when setting up a farm for the first time or updating multiple fields at once.

FAQs

What is an application rate?

An application rate is the rate at which water is applied to a field by the irrigation system.

Why are application rates important?

Application rates are used to calculate total water applied. If the application rate is incorrect, map values, irrigation activity data, and reports may be inaccurate.

Where are application rates used?

Application rates are used in map views, reports, Irrigation Activity, and other water management calculations.

Where can I find my application rate?

The application rate may be listed on the irrigation system design provided when the system was built.

What if I do not know my application rate?

Use the Rate Calculator in Emitter Configuration to calculate it from system design values.

Can I update multiple blocks at once?

Yes. Use Bulk Edit to apply the same application rate to multiple blocks or sets.
