Semios provides a bloom prediction for nonpareil almonds, which predicts the percentage of total flowers that have opened over time. This prediction is derived from a composite of models that account for chill, bud development, and the progression of opening flowers. Each component was developed on data derived from California and is a mix of academic and Semios proprietary models, predominantly using temperature data.

You should validate the model predictions against field observations, especially if growing different varieties or in different regions.

To view the bloom prediction, select “Almond Bloom” from the layers menu. This will bring up the current bloom % on the map view. Use the map controls dropdown to adjust whether you would like to view bloom predictions for the current day, 7 days from today, or 14 days from today.

Bloom predictions are only available for blocks that are labeled as Almond blocks. If bloom predictions are not showing up on an Almond block, please contact your customer success specialist for help with updating block information.

Select a block and open the Summary or Details panels to view further information about that block. The Summary panel will provide a daily summary of the % bloom predicted to have occurred that day, while the Details panel shows the increase in % bloom in a chart.

Edit Bloom Settings

You are encouraged to enter your observed 1% bloom dates for more accurate predictions. Make sure the Bloom layer is selected in the Layers menu. Open the Summary or Details panel and locate the Edit Bloom Settings button in the Bloom section.

Open the Edit Bloom Settings modal to view a list of your Almond blocks. All blocks are set to “Model Predicted” in the “Biofix Type” setting by default. To update the 1% bloom date, change the Biofix Type to “1% Bloom” and enter the observed 1% bloom date. You can apply this change to all blocks, or change each block individually.

Make sure to save your changes after you’re done. It may take up to 10 minutes to update the bloom prediction model based on your changes.
